Choosing a Bathroom Shower Enclosure

If you’re renovating your bathroom, choosing a bathroom shower enclosure is one of the first things you will need to consider.  This is especially true if you’re enlarging your shower.  If you select one made out of the wrong materials or that’s the wrong shape or size, you may end up spending a lot of money to replace it.  Here are some key points to take into consideration when choosing a bathroom shower enclosure:

  • How large of a shower do you want?  You don’t want to make your shower so large that the rest of the bathroom is cramped, but you want to have some space in the shower.
  • Are you moving the pipes?  If you’re open to moving your plumbing around, you have many more options.  If not, you may have to select a bathroom shower enclosure that is very similar to your old one.
  • What materials will look good in your bathroom?  If most of your bathroom is done in wood or faux wood, a shower enclosure with a lot of bright chrome on it might look very out of place.
  • What’s your budget?  When choosing a bathroom shower enclosure, remember that higher quality materials are going to cost more, but they’re going to last much longer.  Chrome or plastic are more budget-friendly, but they’re not going to last as long as solid metal parts.
  • Will there be enough space above the shower doors for steam to vent?

Once you’ve gotten the necessary measurements and made these other decisions, it’s time to see what’s available.  While shopping online will let you get an idea of what style you want, you should also look at an actual store.  This is because some designs look a little different in person, and sometimes you can’t really get a good sense of size from a picture.
